Core Features
Easy installation
If the truck is equipped with the necessary options, the SOPHIE-RC system can easily be installed at selected authorized VOLVO workshops.
Comfortable Handling
In order to activate the system the driver just needs to press a dedicated button in the cabin to activate the system. After some safety checks the following functions are available on the remote control:
- Starting and stopping the motor
- Driving direction selection
- Accelerating and Breaking
- Activation and deactivation of the parking break
- Steering
- Gear shift default or lowest; optional up/down
- Hill start aid
- Horn
- Collision avoidance temporary override
- Emergency Stop
Safety
The safety functions of the software and the hardware integration into the truck were independently approved by TÜV Süd to ensure a safe operation.
The use of the Remote Control is allowed with a full on road permission up to 10km/h. Most customers require a further limitation down to 4 km/h or 6 km/h
Maneuvering in confined areas
With SOPHIE-RC, the driver can safely drive the vehicle forward and backward with full steering function. With speed limited to 6km/h. He can always choose a position where he can best overlook the possible danger areas.
Fast loading and unloading
Often, for example, on road construction sites, building materials have to be unloaded at distances of 10m or 20m. With the SOPHIE-RC, it is no longer necessary for the driver to get into the cab to move the vehicle. The precise placement of containers and attachments is also made much easier and valuable time is saved.
Precise work with attachments
Many attachments require driving at low speed. With the SOPHIE-RC drive system, the truck can be moved safely and accurately. This saves working time and in many applications a second operator is not required.
